MTDSF 50Â electromagnetic eddy current brake is a new type of auxiliary brake designed for both offshore and onshore drilling rigs. Based on the principle of electromagnetic induction, it provides wear-free braking with high torque output, long service life, and minimal maintenance requirements. By applying eddy current braking, the wear of brake blocks is significantly reduced, extending the service life of the brake drum and lowering driller workload. During tripping operations, the main brake is almost unnecessary, as braking torque can be precisely adjusted by regulating the excitation current to control drill string lowering speed. Even when the rotation speed drops to 50 rpm, the brake still delivers up to 75% of its maximum torque, ensuring reliable performance under heavy load conditions.
